LEARNING TO CLIMB
TRC offers a variety of classes for beginner to advanced level climbers. Individual classes and class packages are outlined below. Looking for something, but don’t see it? We can still help. Call our Programs Director at the gym or email him here. TRC can set up specialized instruction to work with your specific climbing needs.
Want to be rock climber? Our Introduction to Climbing class is a great to begin. This two-hour course provides a comprehensive introduction to safe climbing and Triangle Rock Club. Learn about our facility, the different types of climbing, and the basic climbing concepts and practices. As a part of the safe climbing component, we teach proper top rope belay technique, as well as correct use of harnesses and the figure-8-follow-through knot. Upon completing this course, most participants pass our Top Rope Belay Certification. All equipment is provided for this class. In addition, participants receive a one-week pass that all includes free gear rental.
Cost: $40 for current TRC members | $50 for non-members
Offered: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6-8 PM, as well as Saturday mornings from 10 AM-Noon and Noon-2 PM

Our Progressions Clinic picks up where Introduction to Climbing leaves off. This one-hour clinic provides a broader overview of basic climbing concepts and an introduction to bouldering. Participants learn about climbing grades, shoe technology, basic movement techniques, and bouldering/spotting safety. The Progressions Clinic is designed to provide participants new to indoor climbing a fuller picture of the styles and disciplines of climbing.
Cost: Free for current TRC members | $25 for non-members (includes day pass and equipment)
Offered: Saturdays from 10-11 AM

Above the Bolt provides comprehensive instruction on indoor sport climbing. We recommended that participants be comfortable climbing 5.9 on top rope before taking this class. This two-hour course covers the intricacies of lead climbing, from clipping quickdraws correctly to safe belaying, efficient energy conservation to how to safely take a lead fall. Strong emphasis is placed on efficiency and risk management. After taking this course most participants should successfully pass our Lead Climbing Certification test.
Size limit: Six people per class
Required equipment: Climbing harness, rock climbing shoes, belay device w/locking carabiner

Offered: Generally offered from 6-8 PM on the 4th Thursday of every month

Fight Gravity focuses on the mastering the building blocks of efficient movement on a variety of terrains. This two-hour course teaches the fundamentals of body position and good footwork that make harder grades more accessible. Recommended for the 5.8-5.9 climber who is stuck at a plateau, Fight Gravity will help establish good climbing habits for years to come.
Size limit: Four participants per class.

GUIDED CLIMBING OUTINGS
Triangle Rock Guides offers specialized climbing services. Our staff provides personal, professional, and customized rock climbing instruction and guiding services for all ages and abilities, from first-time climbers to those breaking into advanced terrain. We will help you acquire the skills you need to climb in breath-taking places world-wide. We’re organizing trips now. So call or stop in to see what we have planned!
Outdoor Climbing at Pilot Mountain
This trip is for those with no prior climbing experience, or for those who know the basics of indoor climbing and would like to try their skills in the outdoors. This adventure includes lots of rock climbing and covers all basic safety skills: belaying, knots, use and care of climbing equipment, safety issues. Reservations are required.
Cost for a full day: $300 (1-4 participants.); $55 ea. (5+ participants)

PRIVATE BELAY
Don’t have a climbing partner? Visiting from out of town? No problem, TRC’s private belay program is great way for people of all ages to begin climbing. Our private belayers will allow you or you friends to climb without the need of a regular climbing partner. Reservations are required with a one week notice.
Cost: $15 an hour (equipment and day pass not included)
